Riot Games has announced a modification in the regional pricing of its in-game currency, resulting in price hikes exceeding 70% in certain countries.

The gaming firm announced these price adjustments to achieve better alignment of costs across different regions. This move is also aimed at addressing the issue of unauthorized third-party resellers using VPNs and server transfers to buy virtual credits cheaply in one area and resell them elsewhere.

Effective from September 18, the pricing revisions will apply to all five of Riot Games' current titles: League of Legends, Teamfight Tactics, Legends of Runeterra, Valorant, and League of Legends: Wild Rift.

Consumers in the United States will experience no pricing changes. However, Ukraine will face substantial hikes, with increases ranging from 64% to 74% across all platforms. Meanwhile, specific increments for League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics include a 40% rise in the Philippines and a 41% rise in Vietnam.

Conversely, Colombia will see a significant reduction in cost, with a 16% price drop for Legends of Runeterra.

Riot Games explained that, in certain areas, a considerable number of currency transactions are conducted by external parties or users from outside those regions. The company acknowledged the difficulty of these changes, particularly for players in regions subject to the largest increases. "Although we're not pleased with the adjustments, they are crucial to mitigate the exploitation seen within the system and to uphold equitable gaming conditions for all players," the company stated.

The goal of the adjustments is to align currency values more uniformly across regions, reducing the chances of exploitation and ensuring fair gameplay worldwide, Riot Games added.
