Hopoo Games, the developer behind Risk of Rain, is taking a hiatus as its co-founders have joined Valve
Hopoo Games, a US indie studio known for developing Risk of Rain, seems to be on hiatus as key team members, including co-founders Duncan Drummond and Paul Morse, join Valve. This development was shared through a series of posts on X, where it was revealed that they and several other talented members will contribute to Valve's game projects, such as Half-Life and Counter-Strike.
There is no confirmation on whether the engagements of Drummond and Morse with Valve are long-term or temporary. More details are being sought by contacting Hopoo Games and Valve.
The transition of personnel has led to the pause in development of Hopoo Games' upcoming, unnamed project, internally known as 'Snail'. Nevertheless, the studio hints at a potential revival in the future.
The team expressed gratitude for their "exciting and transformative 12 years," and despite the changes, they remain passionate about game development and are eager to work with Valve. They concluded their message with a note of anticipation, "But for now - sleep tight, Hopoo Games."
In 2022, Hopoo Games transferred the Risk of Rain intellectual property to Gearbox for an undisclosed sum. Despite negative feedback concerning the latest DLC for Risk of Rain 2, Rock Paper Shotgun reported that Drummond remains optimistic, considering Gearbox is progressing positively with the series.
