Nintendo has updated its guidelines for content creators to streamline the process of contesting "inappropriate" material
Nintendo has updated its guidelines for content creators, emphasizing that it will oppose any material that it considers "unlawful, infringing, or inappropriate."
In the latest update on September 2, Nintendo expressed gratitude for the dedication and enthusiasm fans show toward its games, characters, and universes. It affirmed support for creators who wish to share their original videos and images using Nintendo's game content, as long as they express themselves creatively.
The company clarified that streamers and let's players who adhere to basic guidelines would not face objections as long as they incorporate their own "creative input or commentary" into the video footage or screenshots used.
Nevertheless, Nintendo's rules prohibit content that integrates its intellectual property with anything it finds "unlawful, infringing, or inappropriate."
The prohibited material includes anything "graphic, explicit, harmful, or otherwise offensive," such as remarks or actions that might be perceived as offensive, insulting, obscene, or distressing to others, according to the company.
Despite the lack of a specific reason for the enforcement of stricter guidelines, it is rumored that this change could relate to an incident involving a Japanese content creator who was forced to remove offensive content from the game Splatoon 3 earlier in the year.
