In August, gaming companies laid off fewer than 300 people
August was a relatively calm month for the gaming industry in terms of layoffs. The portal Game Industry Layoffs counted 271 specialists who were let go from gaming-related companies last month.
Summoners War: Sky Arena
According to the portal, the largest layoffs occurred at the South Korean company Com2uS, known for the Summoners War series of games. It dismissed about 100 people from the division responsible for the metaverse platform Com2Verse. A "small portion" of employees from the Com2uS main office were also affected by the cuts.
Top 5 gaming companies by the number of employees laid off in August:
1. Com2uS — 100 people;
2. Jam City — 85 people;
3. Ubisoft — 45 people;
4. Archiact — 35 people;
5. CodeName Entertainment — six people.
It should be noted that the data from Game Industry Layoffs is incomplete. For instance, the portal mentioned companies such as Ballistic Moon, Machine Zone, Toadman Interactive, Ouka Studios, and ProbablyMonsters as among those affected by layoffs but did not specify the number of employees who lost their jobs. Therefore, the total number of layoffs should be higher.
According to estimates by Game Industry Layoffs, a total of 11,890 people have been laid off in the gaming industry since the beginning of the year.
