Lightneer, a studio founded by former Rovio employees, has shut down
This week, the Finnish mobile studio Lightneer officially ceased operations. It existed for nine years.
The studio's closure was announced on LinkedIn by its CEO, Henri Lindgren. He did not delve into details and didn't explain why this decision was made.
Founded in 2015, Lightneer was established by a group of former employees of another Finnish mobile company, Rovio. Initially, the studio focused on creating educational games, but it failed to achieve success in this segment. Thus, in 2018, it shifted its focus to the development of hyper-casual projects.
By the time it closed, Lightneer had released over 150 games, with some of the most successful being Hammer Jump, Good Slice, and Bazooka Boy. According to the studio's website, their games' total audience exceeded 100 million people.
Lightneer is at least the third gaming studio to shut down in August. Previously, it was reported that Archiact Interactive and Ready At Dawn also closed.
