Games Done Quick, a prominent group in the speedrunning community, has shifted its ownership to Matt Merkle, who was previously the director of operations. This change follows the choice by founder Mike Uyama to retire last year.

With this transition, Merkle assumes the roles of majority owner and managing director while maintaining his position overseeing operations. He will work alongside a management team that includes technology director Jason Deng and business director Ashley Farkas, who also hold ownership stakes in the organization.

"I extend my gratitude to Mike Uyama for establishing this incredible organization and for entrusting it to us," Merkle expressed. "I am committed to continuing his legacy and ensuring the ongoing success of GDQ."

Uyama reflected on his departure, stating, "Leaving Games Done Quick has afforded me the opportunity to recuperate and evaluate my personal journey. I am assured that the team will steer GDQ toward future triumphs. It's time for new leaders to steer the course."

Throughout its various events, GDQ has amassed over $51.7 million for charitable causes. The upcoming event, Awesome Games Done Quick, is scheduled for January 5 to January 12 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
