After a two-decade break, Argonaut Games has made its comeback as a publisher
After a 20-year hiatus, Argonaut Games has made a comeback as a boutique publisher, unveiling a remastered version of Croc Legend of the Gobbos for consoles and PCs.
The original title, released in 1997, marks the beginning of a series which aims to bring back classic Argonaut intellectual properties alongside thrilling new projects for both new and vintage gaming platforms.
Founded by Jez San in 1982, Argonaut is renowned for creating the Starglider series and for its work on Star Fox for the SNES in 1993. The company ceased operations in 2004 due to a series of layoffs, as reported here.
Jez San expressed his enthusiasm about the revival, stating, "I'm thrilled to see the Argonaut name back after twenty years away. Argonaut was always about pushing the boundaries of what's possible in gaming. I'm excited to see how the relaunched Argonaut Games builds on that legacy, starting with the Croc Legend of the Gobbos remaster."
Gary Sheinwald, Argonaut's co-CEO, recalled his involvement with the company, noting, "I worked closely with Jez on the design and production of Starglider, Argonaut's first big hit was back in 1986, so to take up the mantle of relaunching Argonaut Games nearly four decades later brings me full circle."
