In 2023, the European gaming industry employed 114,000 people—more than the previous year
The European Game Developers Federation (EGDF) and Video Games Europe (formerly ISFE) have released a report on the state of the European gaming sector in 2023. Below is a brief overview of the key findings.

- Despite the fact that game companies worldwide began massive layoffs last year, the number of employees in European organizations increased by 6.7%. By the end of 2023, they employed 114,400 people.
- The largest numbers of game development specialists worked in the UK (25,000, +19%), France (15,000, -16.6%), and Poland (15,000, +24%).
- 75.5% of European game development specialists are men.
- In 2023, the total revenue of the five key European markets (UK, Italy, France, Germany, and Spain) amounted to €25.7 billion, a 5% growth compared to 2022.
- 41% of the revenue came from console games and mobile games, respectively. The share of PC games in the revenue was 14%. Game services were responsible for another 3% of the total.
- In the aforementioned countries, by the end of 2023, there were 124.4 million gamers. Their average age is 31 years.
