Space Ape is closing its nine-year-old real-time strategy game, Rival Kingdoms
After nearly ten years, Space Ape announced the discontinuation of its RTS game, Rival Kingdoms, penned by Rhianna Pratchett. The company expressed it was an honor to have managed the game during this time.
The studio confirmed there are no intentions to sell or transfer Rival Kingdoms to another entity, revive it, create a sequel, or allow players to access it on private servers.
Although the developer did not disclose the specific reasons behind the decision to close the game, a message on their website acknowledged, "All games have a life cycle, and Rival Kingdoms is no exception."
The statement further acknowledged, “Watching the growth of Rival Kingdoms and its amazing community over the past eight years has been a privilege."
The game's development involved significant dedication and enthusiasm from both the game teams and the players who explored Estara.
Providing enjoyment beyond gameplay, the game facilitated community efforts like raising funds for charities and forming lasting relationships. The team expressed deep appreciation for the steadfast support and enthusiasm shown over the years.
In a heartfelt message on LinkedIn, marketing manager Bryan Cindell thanked the dedicated team and the passionate community that brought Rival Kingdoms to life.
