Tencent has been awarded the 2024 sustainability accolade at Gamescom
Tencent has been awarded the sustainability accolade for Gamescom 2024.
Brent Irvin, the president of Tencent Americas, received this recognition from Playing for the Planet during the Opening Night Live at Gamescom. The award honors entities that visibly commit to eco-friendly values and transparently share their strategies in carbon accounting and cutting emissions.
The evaluation panel of Playing for the Planet noted Tencent's "transparent approach" regarding their ambitious sustainability goals and the consistent "data-driven measurement updates" that detail not only the company's emissions footprint but also its effects on biodiversity and natural environments.
Irvin expressed, “At Tencent Games, we are deeply honored to receive this award.” He highlighted that Tencent Games, with its studios located in China, Europe, and other regions, as well as their global publishing branch, all share a dedication to sustainable business practices.
He further noted, "Our mission is to achieve carbon neutrality in our operations and throughout our supply chain by the year 2030. We extend our gratitude to our studios, partners, and the gaming community for their vital support in fostering positive changes within our gaming enterprise."
Sam Barratt, the co-founder of Playing for the Planet, commented, "With daily records of heat, floods, and fires, the climate news is sobering. However, we still have an opportunity to avert the worst impacts of climate change. Recognizing Tencent Games' leadership at Gamescom is crucial as they effectively work to cut their carbon emissions and involve their player base. Playing for the Planet looks forward to partnering more closely with Tencent and other gaming studios to enhance these efforts further."
