The Last of Us Part 2 becomes Sony's fastest-selling PS4 title

The Last of Us Part 2 has topped the UK boxed charts.

Since its relase on June 19, the game has set several records. It has become the fastest-selling PlayStation release this generation has seen, leaving behind the launch week of Uncharted 4 by over 1% (possibly more if we count digital copies as well).

It has also become this year’s biggest launch in the UK on any platform, leaving behind the previous leader Animal Crossing: New Horizons by 40%.

The Last of Us Part 2‘s launch sales are also 76% higher than these of Ellie and Joel’s inaugural adventure on PS3. To be fair, PS4 enjoys a much user base than its predecessor did.

The title is definitely going down in history as one of the most controversial ones. On Metacritic, Part 2 currently holds 3.9/10 score versus its 9.5/10 critical consensus. Forbes attributes this divide to review bombing over the game’s use of LGBT characters and the shocking inciting incident. It is also worth noting that the damning reviews started being posted several hours after the release, which wasn’t enough to finish the game. Nor is it clear if the authors of frustrated reviews even own a PlayStation and a copy of the game.
