ByteDance acquires LevelupAI
ByteDance, which owns TikTok, has purchased AI developer LevelupAI. The developer is based in Beijing. No information is available on the price.
The developer was founded in 2016 to explore how AI can create gaming content, PocketGamer.biz reports. It specifically focuses on tower-defence and match-3 genre. As EqualOcean adds, the company also “provides big data analysis and supports game developers to improve products and optimize the gaming experience. Levelup.ai crafts AI players, letting game developers provide a realistic two-player gaming experience, as it identifies ad bots in games via semantic analysis and delineates user images to improve gaming experience and user retention rate.”
This acquisition indicates ByteDance’s continued commitment to expanding its gaming business. In February 2019, the company rolled out mini-games on the Chinese version of TikTok called Douyin. It has been acquiring video games developers in China ever since.
Back in July 2019, ByteDance also confirmed that it was working on its own smartphone that will ship preloaded with apps from ByteDance.
