A recent report on gaming technology indicates that the primary challenge currently facing game developers is securing adequate funding
The most recent State of Game Technology report from Perforce highlights that the primary challenges faced by game developers are funding, collaboration, and the time available for innovation.
Among the 576 participants, who range from practitioners to executives across sectors like gaming, media/entertainment, automotive, and manufacturing, over a third reported that collaboration is hindered primarily by the difficulty of "moving large files," rather than remote work concerns.
Moreover, 90% of those surveyed indicated that access to senior leadership is more critical than the choice to work remotely, which received 81% support.
Issues such as a "lack of talent" and "aggressive timelines" were also mentioned as barriers to fostering innovative ideas.
Interestingly, more than half of the respondents utilize game engines like Unity and Unreal for projects beyond gaming, with a significant portion stating they do not work in the gaming industry at all.
Perforce asserts that this trend demonstrates that game developers "have always been at the forefront of innovation," noting that "their tools and processes are a strong fit for challenges in other markets."
Additionally, over 65% of developers reported using "AI tools," with ChatGPT being the most commonly used at 47%.
