Epic Games has launched its app store for mobile devices
Epic Games has announced the launch of the mobile version of the Epic Games Store. The store is now available on Android worldwide and on iOS in European Union countries. Its launch on iOS was made possible thanks to the Digital Markets Act (DMA).
Currently, the mobile Epic Games Store library includes three games: Fortnite, Fall Guys, and Rocket League Sideswipe.
During a press conference, Epic Games Store General Manager Steve Allison announced that games from third-party developers will be available in the store by the end of 2024. According to him, Epic Games is negotiating with "almost every" one of the 250 leading mobile developers. While they have approached the launch of the store on Android with "great enthusiasm," many remain uncertain about the prospects of releasing their games on iOS outside of the App Store.
Allison hopes that by next year, the iOS version of the Epic Games Store will be operational in Japan and the UK, and eventually in all other countries. However, this depends on Apple's policies and the legislation of individual countries.
Epic Games is aiming for 100 million downloads of the mobile Epic Games Store by January.
