The creator of Doom has become the lead designer at PlayFirst
Tom Hall, one of the creators of Wolfenstein 3D and Doom, has joined the team at PlayFirst, the makers of Diner Dash.
This is a wonderful, and certainly not an April Fool's joke, jokes PocketGamer.
Appointing Hall as lead designer is indeed a strange decision by PlayFirst, but not because this man once contributed to iconic hardcore projects like Commander Keen and Anachronox.
Since 2001, Tom has been heavily involved in mobile games and the casual market, developing MMOs, and when Facebook emerged, social games. Recently, he even surfaced with a project on Kickstarter.
The problem is that he hasn’t released any notable games since Anachronox. Moreover, most of his recent projects that he actively tried to promote, including the clumsy platformer Worlds of Wonder and the unattractive browser-based Ghost Recon Commander, didn't even make it to launch.
The last released project he worked on was the farm game Pettington Park. Zynga launched it a year ago exclusively on Google+, which is concerning in itself. And it is this person, whose real achievements are in the distant past, that PlayFirst hires as a lead designer.
