Blizzard announced a game for iPad
At the Penny Arcade Expo gaming festival, the creators of World of Warcraft, Diablo, and Starcraft announced the development of a collectible card game with role-playing elements called Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft.
This will be a free PvP game where the player must choose one of nine classes. Based on their specialization, players can then customize their deck. Cards for the deck are obtained from packs, which will require either spending money or earning them through battles. Each pack will contain five cards.
Battles will take place between real players "online" one-on-one. The goal of each session is to defeat the opponent with spells and summoned monsters, which require mana to cast.
The game's mechanics at this stage are reminiscent of a simplified and very visually appealing digital Magic: The Gathering.
Interestingly, Blizzard initially assigned only 15 people to create the game, tasking them to “make an epic yet small game.”
Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft will first be released on PC and Mac, and later on iPad. The beta launch of the project is scheduled for the summer.
