New Monetization Method from Placed
Placed offers developers a new way to monetize their apps through its unique service, Placed Affiliate, which gathers information about the location of mobile devices.
The concept is simple: a developer adds an SDK to their app, which collects data on the location of its users. Placed pays developers a certain amount for access to this audience, likely based on the number of users who download the app with the active Placed Affiliate SDK. No ads, no banners, just sit back and watch the money roll in.
However, as Placed itself points out, specializing in location analytics, developers are obligated to inform users that their app collects this kind of information. If a user doesn’t consent, the developer won't receive anything from the analysts for that particular user.
The fact that with every app download supporting Placed Affiliate, the mobile device owner decides whether they consciously want to be a participant or not, somewhat resembles the practice of lead generation (identifying the most advertisement-sensitive potential customers).
In any case, if such a practice becomes widely adopted and research companies start competing for publishers and developers, the average app revenue in the market could rise.
