OUYA acquired 166 projects
The success of a platform and any gaming console is determined by its content. Until recently, it wasn't entirely clear how things stood with the highly-publicized Ouya. Some things have now become clearer.
It was initially planned that most projects would be simple ports from smartphones and tablets, redesigned for television screens.
However, the project creators quickly realized that a console without exclusives is not really a console. So, to create "special" content and attract the attention of independent developers to Ouya, a 10-day "game jam" contest was devised to create the best game prototype for the Android console.
Recently, the company decided to share its initial results.
A total of 166 projects were created during the contest (as you can see, Ouya won't be left without content) by developers from the USA, France, Canada, New Zealand, and even South Africa. The winners are still unknown. The results will be out in a couple of weeks, but for now, you can check out the contestants. There isn’t much of interest, but on the other hand, there's a clear interest in the console.
As a reminder, Ouya is the first full-fledged gaming console operating on the Android OS. It is not a mobile device.
