A report indicates that 81% of mobile developers are currently engaged in creating new games or applications

A recent analysis conducted by Sandsoft, a firm specializing in mobile games, reveals that 81% of mobile developers are currently engaged in creating new games. Additionally, 83% have secured funding for various stages of production, including development, launching, and marketing.

The findings are part of the Publisher Perception Report, developed in collaboration with Atomik Research. This study involved 454 game developers from the United States, Spain, and France, conducted between June 4 and June 10, 2024.

Among these developers, 47% are currently evaluating a prototype, while 9% have reached the soft launch phase. In terms of game genres, hybrid-casual is currently leading in popularity at 43%, followed by casual games at 34%.

Concerns over possible job cuts are prevalent, with 49% of participants fearing further layoffs. Many developers regard unionization favorably, seeing it as a protective measure for their careers.

Despite challenges, 90% of developers emphasize the necessity for AAA-quality games on mobile platforms, even though titles like Resident Evil 7 on iOS have only attracted around 2,000 paying players.

Artificial Intelligence plays a significant role in the development process, with 84% of developers utilizing it. Furthermore, 38% identify AI as a fundamental aspect of their workflow.

The report indicates that the primary funding avenues for mobile game projects are strategic investments, accounting for 31%, and direct publisher funding at 27%.

While 34% of developers recognize publishers as offering valuable assistance, over 25% express concerns about unfavorable terms, particularly in revenue sharing and creative control, feeling publishers take more than they give.

Moreover, developers indicated a 50% increased likelihood to seek distribution agreements in particular regions, highlighting Latin America as a key emerging market of interest.
