Reports indicate that Meta has decided to close down Ready at Dawn
Meta has reportedly closed the doors on game development studio Ready at Dawn.
In an internal memo accessed by Android Central, Oculus Studios' VP Gio Hunt announced the immediate shutdown of the studio.
A Meta representative explained that this decision was not driven by cost-cutting measures but by the need to align Reality Labs with its updated budget constraints and to boost its long-term effectiveness.
Despite this closure, Meta emphasized that it remains dedicated to its virtual reality goals and does not intend to curtail its lineup of first-party VR games.
Reality Labs experienced a $4.5 billion loss in Q2, continuing a trend seen over recent years, as highlighted in recent reports.
Founded in 2003 by ex-employees from Naughty Dog and Blizzard, Ready at Dawn's portfolio includes titles like Daxter and the God of War series. The studio shifted its focus to virtual reality in 2017, gaining recognition for the Lone Echo series.
Meta acquired Ready at Dawn in June 2020, back when it was still known as Facebook. The studio was also affected by Meta's layoffs in April 2023, as reported in earlier coverage.
