GameStop discontinues Game Informer
After 33 years, Game Informer has ceased publication.
According to Kotaku, employees were informed of the closure during a meeting with GameStop on Friday, August 2. The entire team was let go, and severance packages were discussed.
On the same day, GameStop announced the shutdown via social media.
Former video lead Alex Van Aken mentioned that the website had been deactivated, preventing staff from saving their work. The site now hosts a statement regarding the closure.
Ex-content director Kyle Hilliard noted that the team was nearly finished with the next issue when the shutdown was announced and the staff were dismissed.
GameStop has owned Game Informer since 2000.
The company closed the Australian edition of Game Informer in 2019, followed by two rounds of layoffs in August and March of that year.
