Epic Games has taken Fortnite off mobile app stores to ready the launch of its own platform
Epic Games is set to remove Fortnite and its other titles from mobile app stores as it prepares to launch its own digital platform on iOS and Android.
In an official statement, the company revealed it would discontinue distribution partnerships with mobile platforms that it perceives as monopolistic, despite potential preferential treatment for its games.
The company also announced it would withdraw Fortnite and other games from the Samsung Galaxy store, attributing this move to Samsung's default blocking of side-loading on its devices.
Epic further pointed to Google's alleged anti-competitive approaches to Samsung regarding Android app distribution as a justification for this action.
For iOS users in the European Union, Epic's mobile games will be offered on AltStore, with plans to expand to at least two other third-party stores soon.
The new storefront will mimic the terms of its PC platform by charging developers a 12% fee for payment processing and allowing them to bypass this fee if they choose an external payment system.
The Epic Game Store will debut in the EU on iOS and Android within this year and will reach iOS users in the UK by mid-2025, according to a report.
