Following a wave of player backlash, Respawn has reversed its decision on recent changes to the battle pass
Respawn, the studio behind Apex Legends, has acknowledged it "could have handled its Battle Pass changes better" and has committed to enhancing the "overall value and experience" of its Battle Pass offerings.
Earlier this month, Respawn revealed alterations to the pricing strategy for Apex Legends battle passes. The upcoming season will see passes becoming available exclusively through real-world money transactions.
Previously, players had the option to purchase passes using in-game currency.
In a statement made on social media, Respawn announced, "You've spoken, and we've listened," confirming that the ability to buy the pass with in-game currency will return starting from Season 22 Split 2 on September 17.
This means that during Split 1, players can acquire the premium pass by "completing a series of simple in-game challenges." For Split 2, in-game currency, Apex Coins, can once again be used to obtain the pass.
"Going forward, we understand the importance of being more timely, transparent, and consistent in our communications with you," the statement continued.
Respawn emphasized that addressing cheaters, ensuring game stability, and delivering quality of life updates are their top priorities. The company acknowledged the need for improvement, stating, "We need to get better and it's why we're acknowledging them here."
The statement concluded by expressing gratitude to the players for their "passion and time," adding that the studio "couldn't do this without [its community]."
