Donald Trump's account has been reinstated by Twitch
Three years after issuing a permanent ban, Twitch has reinstated Donald Trump's account.
According to PC Gamer, this move comes as he is recognized as the 2024 Republican presidential candidate.
In a statement, Twitch emphasized the importance of allowing direct communication from presidential candidates: "We believe there is value in hearing from presidential nominees directly, when possible." The platform assured that it would maintain strict enforcement of its community guidelines.
"Twitch doesn't have a 'public figure policy,' meaning all channels are equally subject to our guidelines, regardless of whether the channel belongs to a public figure."
Back in January 2021, Trump faced a permanent ban following the unrest at the US Capitol.
The action was taken to "remove potential harm to the community and the general public," as Twitch has explicit rules against hateful conduct, harassment, or inciting violence.
Prior to this, in June 2020, Twitch had temporarily suspended Trump's channel for two weeks due to offensive remarks made during campaign rallies.
