Microsoft has reportedly disbanded one of its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) teams

News has surfaced that Microsoft has dissolved one of its teams dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).

IGN reported that a former team lead communicated through an internal email that the layoffs occurred on July 1 due to evolving business priorities.

The exact number of employees affected by the layoffs was not disclosed.

The former leader's email reportedly included allegations against company executives, claiming they were under investigation for discrimination, harassment, and toxic behavior.

Addressing the situation, a Microsoft representative stated: "Our D&I commitments remain unchanged. Our focus on diversity and inclusion is unwavering, and we are holding firm on our expectations, prioritizing accountability, and continuing our focus on this work."

Microsoft's recent layoff wave has been substantial, with 1,900 jobs eliminated from its gaming division back in January.

The topic of diversity and inclusion remains critical among game developers. According to the IGDA 2023 Developer Satisfaction survey released earlier this year, 85% of respondents viewed diversity as a crucial element in the industry, workplace, and in-game content.
