Rostelecom wants to create a Russian gaming console
A representative of Rostelecom told the newspaper Kommersant that the company is interested in creating a Russian gaming console. It is considering its development "as a promising business direction."
Whether Rostelecom already has concrete ideas is not stated. The company only mentioned that they want to use the Aurora operating system for the console.
According to Kommersant, on July 12, representatives from Rostelecom, together with other business representatives, participated in a meeting organized by the Department of Radio-Electronic Industry of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation concerning the creation of the console. Besides Rostelecom, the meeting included GS Nanotech, Fplus, Beshtau, Red Soft, VK, Lesta Games, and the associations APRIORI and RVI.
It is also reported that GS Nanotech is ready to start console production "of any complexity," given a client. Another potential console manufacturer is Beshtau. They plan to work on electronics, while the collaborating university DSTU will focus on manufacturing cases and software. Beshtau and DSTU plan to present a console prototype in September.
