Thunderful Group has divested its entire distribution segment to Bergsala NDP
Thunderful Group has continued its restructuring efforts, shedding its distribution units to concentrate solely on its gaming enterprises. A newly established branch of Bergsala has acquired these subsidiaries.
Bergsala NDP AB has officially taken control of Amo Toys, Bergsala Aktiebolag, Thunderful 1, and Thunderful Solutions. This transaction, first revealed to shareholders and stakeholders on May 21, has been finalized today.
This new Bergsala entity is under the ownership of Owe Bergsten, who is Thunderful's principal shareholder and a board member.
Now, Thunderful's operations will focus exclusively on its gaming sector, which includes development studios Coatsink, Jumpship, and Image & Form, the creator of SteamWorld, along with the publishing unit Rising Star Games, and the investment division Robot Teddy.
The recent divestment is part of Thunderful's broader strategy to streamline operations, a process that began with an announcement in January about restructuring plans that involved reducing the workforce by 20%. The company has already sold the German developer and publisher Headup for €500,000 and another distribution business, Nordic Game Supply.
The creation of Thunderful Group came about in December 2019 through a merger with Bergsala. Bergsala is well-known for being the exclusive distributor of Nintendo products in the Nordic and Baltic regions, a partnership that has been extended to March 31, 2026.
Thunderful Group reported a significant full-year loss of SEK 609.4 million ($57 million), attributing this deficit to dwindling sales of the Nintendo Switch as the console approaches the end of its lifecycle. Before this downturn, Bergsala’s revenue from Nintendo had been a significant boost to the group’s financial health.
