Alberta-based gaming startups obtain $1.5 million in funding through Scaffold accelerator
The video game startup incubator, Scaffold, located in Alberta, Canada, has secured an additional CAD$2 million (approximately $1.46 million USD) in funding.
PrairiesCan, a federal entity dedicated to boosting economic development in the Canadian Prairies, which include Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba, has contributed CAD$1 million (about $732,000 USD) of this sum.
The program also received CAD$750,000 (around $549,000 USD) from Alberta Innovates, a private organization, while CAD$250,000 (roughly $183,000 USD) is being provided by Shred Capital, which is led by Matt Toner, the head of Scaffold.
Scaffold is designed to assist game developers through mentorship, workshops, investment opportunities and other resources aimed at enhancing Alberta's gaming industry. The goal is to double the number of small to medium-sized gaming companies in the region.
The program, which spans multiple years, recently welcomed its third cohort, all of which have filled to capacity. One of the notable studios supported by Scaffold is Studio Monsoon, known for co-developing "The Lord of the Rings: Return To Moria."
Besides improving the incubation program with the new funds, Scaffold will also be organizing its inaugural Game Investors Summit this October in Banff.
