Midnight Society announces the departure of co-founder Dr Disrespect
Update, June 26, 2024: Guy Beahm recently responded to the allegations leading to his 2020 Twitch suspension, acknowledging that back in 2017, he engaged in communication with a minor.
“I should not have entertained these discussions from the start,” he mentioned in a post, describing the interactions as “casual, mutual conversations that sometimes leaned too much in the direction of being inappropriate.”
Following these new allegations, Turtle Beach announced cutting ties with Beahm, according to Video Games Chronicle.
Original story, June 25, 2024: Midnight Society disclosed they have severed connections with their co-founder and popular streamer, Guy "Dr Disrespect" Beahm.
The company revealed on social media that they were made aware last Friday of accusations pertaining to Beahm's 2020 Twitch suspension.
“We assumed his innocence and started talking with those involved,” the developer noted. “To uphold our values and integrity as a studio and individuals, we found it necessary to act. Consequently, our association with Guy Beahm ends with immediate effect.
"Recognizing these facts is challenging and acting on them even more so, but it is our responsibility to act with honor for all involved, especially our 55 employees and their families, and our player community."
According to The Verge, a former Twitch staffer claimed Beahm's ban resulted from sending messages to a minor and allegedly planning to meet them at TwitchCon.
Beahm has denied these accusations on social media.
"This issue has been resolved, no misconduct was confirmed, and [Twitch] fulfilled the full contract," he remarked.
Beahm received a permanent ban from Twitch in 2020, a year after initiating a two-year agreement with the platform.
At the time, Twitch did not provide a specific reason for the ban, citing only a breach of its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service.
In response, Beahm filed a lawsuit against Twitch and settled in 2022 with both parties not admitting to any wrongdoing.
