Breaking news: Paradox Tectonic, the studio behind Life By You, has been closed.

Update, June 19, 2024: Paradox Interactive has closed down Paradox Tectonic, resulting in job losses for 24 employees.

"This is incredibly tough news for our team at Tectonic, which has put in tremendous efforts towards Life By You's early access launch," stated Paradox CEO Fredrik Wester. "Regrettably, following the project's termination, we had no choice but to make this difficult decision."

"We sincerely appreciate their commitment to helping Paradox explore new genres."

Original story, June 18, 2024: Paradox Interactive has announced the termination of its life simulation game Life By You.

The announcement was made by the company's deputy CEO Mattias Lilja on the Paradox Forum, highlighting that the title fell short of both the company's and the community's expectations.

"Life By You has been in development for an extended period, and we held great expectations for its potential," wrote Lilja. "We chose to delay its release twice to give the team a fair opportunity to meet those expectations.

"With each postponement, we saw minor enhancements, which in retrospect, might have diverted our focus from the overall goal."

Lilja further elaborated on the decision, mentioning the most recent early access launch planned for June 4. He noted that the game was "missing essential elements."

"Although extending the timeline was considered, our broader evaluation made it evident that achieving a satisfactory release was unpredictable and distant."

Life By You was intended to be the first release from Paradox Tectonic, an internal studio established in 2019 under the leadership of ex-Electronic Arts executive vice president Rod Humble.

The game was officially revealed in March 2023, with its initial early access launch anticipated later that year, but faced multiple delays.
