"Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door" has clinched the top spot in Japan's Monthly Charts

In May, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door emerged as the top-seller in Japan, achieving 115,649 sales within just three days following its release on May 23.

While this figure fell slightly short of the initial 138,000 units sold during the 2004 GameCube launch, it's important to note that the remake's digital sales on the Nintendo eShop were not included in the count, according to new Famitsu data.

Second place for the month went to Stellar Blade, which sold 46,424 copies, closely followed by Endless Ocean Luminous at 42,847 units, which debuted on May 2.

Nintendo reigned supreme in the May charts, with only Stellar Blade released outside the Switch platform. Popular titles like Ring Fit Adventure and Animal Crossing: New Horizons also re-entered the Top 10, joining other Nintendo hits such as Super Mario Bros Wonder and Princess Peach: Showtime.

Nintendo dominated sales by contributing 48.5% with revenue hitting ¥2.6 billion ($16.5 million), driven largely by the performance of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and Endless Ocean Luminous.

The Switch retained its position as the best-selling console, comprising 79.9% of sales with 769,886 physical copies sold, while the PS5 followed with 144,005 units, making up 15% of all sales.

In terms of hardware, the Switch led with combined sales of 192,824 units across its three models. The lifetime sales of the Switch hit 32.9 million after an additional 193,000 units sold in May. The PlayStation 5 sold a total of 89,207 units, with the disc drive version leading the way.
