A live-action adaptation of the "Like A Dragon" series is set to debut on Amazon Prime Video
The acclaimed Like A Dragon video game series from Sega is being turned into a six-episode live action series, slated for release on Amazon Prime Video later this year.
According to Variety, The Fool is producing the show, with Take Masaharu and Takimoto Kengo directing. The iconic character Kiryu Kazuma will be played by Takeuchi Ryoma, best known for his role in Kamen Rider.
The series, titled Like A Dragon: Yakuza, will be set in both 1995 and 2005, focusing on childhood friends entangled with the Yakuza.
Prime Video has stated that the series will "[showcase] modern Japan and the dramatic stories of these intense characters, such as the legendary Kazuma Kiryu, that games in the past have not been able to explore."
The first three episodes are scheduled to premiere on October 25, 2024, with the remaining episodes releasing on November 1. The episodes will have subtitles and dubbing available in 30 languages.
The Like A Dragon series kicked off in 2005, initially introduced in Japan under that name but launched as Yakuza in Western markets. In 2022, Sega decided to standardize the name globally as Like A Dragon.
The franchise's latest installment, Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth, achieved record-breaking sales when it debuted in January, becoming the series' fastest-selling game.
