The creators of VRChat have laid off 30% of their staff
Another addition has been made to the list of gaming companies that have reduced their staff. VRChat, the developer of the social VR game of the same name, has joined the list.
VRChat
The CEO of VRChat, Graham Gaylor, informed employees in a letter that the studio would part ways with 30% of its workforce. He explained that the studio currently employs too many people. During the successful years of 2021-2022, VRChat actively hired staff in hopes of accelerating its growth further. Then, a downturn hit the VR market, forcing the studio to reassess its processes.
Gaylor called the decision to lay off a third of the staff difficult but necessary. It will enable VRChat to avoid future issues and ensure the long-term health of the business.
