In an interview with IGN, Microsoft's Head of Gaming Phil Spencer commented for the first time on the recent closure of four Bethesda studios, including Tango Gameworks and Arkane Austin.

Spencer explained that he had not publicly discussed this situation before because he was focused on the "teams and individuals." He needed to ensure that everyone who was laid off received their entitled severance pay and other compensations.

"I have repeatedly said that I need to run a sustainable business and ensure growth. This means that sometimes I have to make tough decisions. Decisions that, frankly, I don't like but need to be made by someone. We will continue to move forward. We will keep investing in Xbox development and building the best business we can," Spencer said.
