Dragon's Dogma 2 hits 2.5 million copies sold, bringing franchise's total sales to 10 million units

Capcom has shared the launch sales of Dragon’s Dogma 2, its first major release of 2024. The game has been a success, with over 2.5 million copies sold globally since its launch on March 22.

Dragon's Dogma 2 hits 2.5 million copies sold in less than two weeks

As announced on Capcom’s official website, Dragon’s Dogma 2 took 11 days to cross the 2.5 million mark. However, it is unclear how sales are distributed across PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.

Here is how the launch figures of Dragon’s Dogma 2 compare to the company’s games released last year:

The Japanese publisher also announced that the entire Dragon’s Dogma IP has now sold over 10 million copies globally. In addition to the sequel, this includes sales of the original game and its re-releases for various platforms, which sold over 8.4 million units combined. Below are the best-selling installments (via Capcom’s list of platinum titles):

  • Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen (PS3, Xbox 360) — 3.5 million copies sold since April 2013;
  • Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen (PS4, Xbox One) — 2.3 million copies sold since October 2017;
  • Dragon’s Dogma (PS3, Xbox 360) — 1.3 million copies sold since May 2012.

Shortly after its launch, Dragon’s Dogma 2 was review-bombed on Steam, with players criticizing poor optimization and the presence of microtransactions in the $70 single-player game. Capcom eventually addressed some of the issues and recently released an update that added an option to start a new game with an existing save file, a feature that wasn’t available in the game at launch.

As a result, the user score of Dragon’s Dogma 2 improved to 58% positive based on more than 50k reviews. Despite the initial mixed reception from the audience, the game managed to attract huge interest from players, peaking at over 228k concurrent users. It also became the highest-grossing premium title on Steam for the week of March 19-26, outperforming Helldivers 2, Horizon Forbidden West, EA Sports FC 24, and Baldur’s Gate 3.
