Baldur's Gate 3 audience exceeded 10 million people

Michael Douse, director of publishing at Larian Studios, inadvertently revealed the size of Baldur's Gate 3 audience. He mentioned the number during a discussion about mod support.

Dowse wrote in X that the number of users in Baldur's Gate 3 "has grown from 2 million to more than 10 million people in a very short period of time." Apparently, when talking about 2 million people, Dawes was referring to the size of the game's audience during its early access. Recall that in August 2023, the CEO of Larian Studios, Sven Vincke, announced that as part of early access, the studio sold 2.5 million copies of Baldur's Gate 3.

Daus did not say how the users were distributed between the PC, PlayStation and Xbox versions.

Last Friday, Dawes also noted that Baldur's Gate 3 is still very actively played. Last week, the average daily audience on Steam alone was 644,205 people. Important: we are not talking about the peak daily online, but about the number of players who launched Baldur's Gate 3 during the day. According to SteamDB, the peak daily online game is about five times less. For example, at its peak on Friday, February 23, there were 124,139 people on the Steam version of Baldur's Gate 3 at the same time.

Speaking about the support for mods, Daus promised to share the details soon. He urged users to be calmer. According to him, the studio has been working on a mod support system since the release of the game, but it is difficult for it to maintain a dialogue with the audience when some players shower developers with insults.

"99.9% of our community members are the best people. It is thanks to them that the public relations team continues to do its job steadfastly. But it seems to me that when you have such a large audience, a couple of black sheep will inevitably appear in it," Dowse wrote.

Recall that last week, Dawes announced that by the end of the year, Larian Studios will add a cross-platform mod support system to Baldur's Gate 3. He made the announcement against the background of problems caused by the big sixth patch for the game and subsequent hotfixes: updates led to a lot of bugs, and also broke some mods.
