Genshin Impact has reached $5 billion in mobile revenue, according to data.ai. It is now one of the 13 mobile titles in this club.

Genshin Impact becomes fastest mobile game to hit $5 billion in lifetime revenue

  • Data.ai analysts revealed that Genshin Impact took 40 months to cross the $5 billion mark, which is a new record for the mobile games market.
  • For comparison, the previous record holder, Clash of Clans, reached $5 billion in revenue in 51 weeks after launch, followed by Monster Strike (52 weeks), and Honor of Kings (55 weeks).
  • Other games on the list include Fate/Grand Order (57 weeks), Pokémon GO (58 weeks), Puzzle & Dragons (63 weeks), Candy Crush Saga (69 weeks), Lineage M (74 weeks), Fantasy Westward Journey (84 weeks), Gardenscapes (91 weeks), Roblox (135 weeks), and Coin Master (151 weeks).
  • Interestingly, most games with $5+ billion in lifetime revenue were developed/published by Asian companies: Genshin Impact (China), Monster Strike (Japan), Honor of Kings (China), Fate/Grand Order (Japan), Puzzle & Dragons (Japan), Lineage M (South Korea), and Fantasy Westward Journey (China).

  • When it comes to Genshin Impact, China is the number one country by mobile revenue. According to data.ai, local users spent nearly $1.5 billion on the game (roughly 30% of the total) — and it is on iOS alone since analysts don’t track third-party Android stores.
  • China is followed by Japan ($1.06 billion, 21% of the total) and the US ($903 million, 18%). In these countries, data includes player spending via both iOS and Google Play.

Launched in September 2020, Genshin Impact reached $1 billion in mobile revenue in just six months and crossed the $2 billion mark in its first year. It remains one of the highest-grossing mobile titles globally, helping miHoYo strengthen its position in the market.

The success of Genshin Impact was followed by the launch of another cross-platform gacha RPG, Honkai: Star Rail. It surpassed $500 million in player spending in three months, eventually reaching the $1 billion mark last September.
