The Chinese regulator allowed 115 more games to be released in the country
The Chinese authorities continue to try to correct the situation in the local gaming market, which worsened after the publication of the draft new restrictions for developers in December. On January 25, the country issued a record number of gaming licenses in the last 18 months.
At the end of December, the Chinese regulator had already taken a similar step. Then he issued licenses to 105 games, which at that time was also a record number in a year and a half. It is assumed that the issuance of a large number of licenses will help Chinese developers to increase their financial performance again. Recall that after the appearance of the draft new restrictions, the shares of the leading players in the market seriously sank: for example, NetEase shares fell by 28%, and Tencent shares by 16%.
The latest list of approved games includes, in particular, the basketball simulator Re Xue Mei Zhi Lan from Tencent (apparently, this is the version of NBA Infinite for China). The regulator also issued licenses to such large Chinese companies as Lilith Games, Shenzhen Zhongqingbaowang Network Technology and 37 Interactive Entertainment.
It should be noted that at the beginning of the week, the controversial project disappeared from the regulator's website. The regulator itself did not comment on what happened, so it is not known whether it has decided to completely abandon the planned changes or is going to edit the document.
Earlier in China, Feng Shixin, the head of the publishing bureau of the Central Propaganda Department of the Communist Party of the country, was fired. He supervised the Chinese gaming market. According to Chinese media, his dismissal could be due to the negative reaction of gaming companies to the draft of new restrictions.
