The Pokémon Company will check Palworld for plagiarism

The owners of the Pokémon brand are going to find out if a certain "game from another company released in January 2024" violates their copyrights. In its statement, The Pokémon Company did not give the name of the game, but obviously it's about Palworld.

The Pokémon Company decided to explore the game after receiving numerous complaints about it.

"We have not given any permission to use IP Pokémon or assets in this game. We intend to investigate and take appropriate action against all actions that violate intellectual property rights related to Pokémon," The Pokémon Company wrote.

Pocketpair Studio, which created Palworld, did not comment on The Pokémon Company's statement.

Palworld is one of the most popular novelties of recent months. It became available in early access format on January 19, 2024, and in the first six days it sold 8 million copies on Steam alone. However, against the background of the growing popularity of the title on the web, they are increasingly talking about similarities with the Pokémon franchise: developers are accused of plagiarizing the style, elements and images of the characters.

Shortly before the release of Palworld, Pocketpair studio CEO Takuro Mizobe admitted in an interview with Automaton that he is a big fan of Pokémon. He called Pokémon the "great predecessor" of Palworld, but stressed that his game is very different from this franchise. Mizobe added that Pocketpair never wanted to infringe on anyone's copyrights. The studio even sent Palworld for a legal review, which it passed without any problems.
