Users have spent over $4 billion on Kakao apps
The AppMagic platform analyzed user spending in applications of the South Korean Kakao corporation. According to her estimates, they amounted to $4.3 billion*. Most of the money was spent on MMORPGs in the Scandinavian setting ODIN: Valhalla Rising.
ODIN: Valhalla Rising
According to AppMagic, in ODIN: Valhalla Rising, players left 25% of the amount. Next in terms of user spending are KakaoTalk messenger (23%), KakaoPage manga distribution platform (9%) and RPG Guardian Tales (8%).
As analysts noticed, immediately after the release of ODIN: Valhalla Rising on June 29, 2021, Kakao's monthly income from IAP increased dramatically. If by the end of June they amounted to $ 13.3 million, then by the end of July they came close to $ 60 million. Now the company receives an average of $40 million per month from IAP.
AppMagic also counted Kakao app downloads. As the platform data showed, users downloaded KakaoTalk the most times. The messenger has 147.5 million downloads. Melon took the second place in terms of downloads (35.4 million), and KakaoPage took the third place (23.3 million). Guardian Tales has become the most downloaded Kakao game with 15.7 million downloads. For comparison, ODIN: Valhalla Rising has collected only 2.58 million downloads to date.
The main market for Kakao has become South Korea. This country accounted for 87% of user spending and 84% of downloads. The top three countries in spending also included Japan (4%) and Taiwan (3%), and the top three countries in downloads were Japan (3%) and the United States (2%) again.
*The amount of $4.3 billion is net user spending before Kakao paid mobile store fees and taxes. If you subtract them, Kakao's earnings will be approximately $2.4 billion.
