Weird West hits 2 million players in less than two years, indicating success of WolfEye's debut game
WolfEye Studios has announced a new achievement for its top-down immersive sim Weird West. The game has reached 2 million players since its launch in March 2022.
On December 12, WolfEye Studios shared the news in a post on X (formerly Twitter), thanking everyone for their support.
It is worth noting that Weird West has long been available on Game Pass and was added to PS Plus in September. So it is unclear how many of those 2 million players purchased the game and how many played it via subscription. The studio also didn’t disclose how the audience is distributed across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
Weird West attracted over 400k players in less than two weeks after launch. This means it took the title just over 1.5 years to reach another 1.6 million users.

Weird West is a debut game from WolfEye Studio, a team that was started by Arkane founder Raphaël Colantonio and another Arkane veteran Julien Roby in 2019. Launched on March 31, 2022, it received generally positive reviews from critics and players (it currently has a 77% rating on Steam based on 2,796 user reviews).
Rooted in the immersive sim genre, Weird West features the systems-heavy gameplay that combines elements of action RPGs and twin-stick shooters. It is divided into five chapters focused on different characters, including the bounty hunter, the pigman, and the werewolf.
Since launch, WolfEye Studios has fixed many of the game’s issues and added new content, the permadeath mode, and mod support.
Earlier this year, the developer announced a partnership with VC fund Galaxy Interactive, which should help the team “get more ambitious with our next game.” Details about WolfEye’s next project remain undisclosed, but it is definetely won’t be a sequel to Weird West. The game might be based on the same design principles as previous projects created by Colantonio, who still says, “Immersive sims until I die.”
