E3 is officially dead. ESA has decided to close the event

"After more than two decades of E3, each of which was bigger than the previous one, it's time to say goodbye," the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) said on the E3 page on the social network X.

"We understand how difficult it is to say goodbye to such a beloved event, but now it will be the right step, given the new opportunities that the industry has received to connect with fans and partners," Stanley Pierre—Louis, president and CEO of a non-profit organization representing the interests of the US gaming industry and responsible for the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3).

By the new features, Pierre-Louis most likely meant that today companies mainly show their games online, thereby significantly reducing the marketing costs that previously went to participate in the exhibition.

Recall that E3 has been held since 1995. However, by the end of the tenth, they began to lose interest in it, just against the background of the fact that more and more often large companies refused to be part of the event. Instead, they began to organize their own separate online show cases.

The exhibition did not take place in 2023. The official reason was as follows: it did not generate "the sustained interest necessary to conduct it in a way that demonstrates the size, strength and influence of our industry."
