Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader becomes 2nd highest-grossing premium game on Steam, Lethal Company still dominates charts

Another week, another portion of data on the best-selling games on Steam. Let’s take a look at how new releases, including Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader and The Day Before, performed on the charts.

Steam Deck was the top-grossing product on Steam for the week of December 5-12. It is followed by two major free-to-play hits, Counter-Strike 2 and PUBG.

Although Lethal Company dropped two spots from the previous week, the indie phenomenon remained the highest-grossing premium game on the platform. The game has been dominating the charts since its Early Access launch on October 24

Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, an isometric tactical RPG from Owlcat Games, debuted at #5 overall (#2 when excluding free-to-play titles and Steam Deck). It received positive reviews from players, also peaking at 45,405 concurrent players.

Speaking of other new releases, The Finals ranked 7th in gross revenue. The free-to-play shooter, developed by Embrak Studios and published by Nexon, peaked at over 242k concurrent players over the weekend and managed to perform better than Apex Legends and Call of Duty.

Below are the top 10 games on Steam by gross revenue for the week of December 5-12 (excluding F2P titles and Steam Deck):

  1. Lethal Company
  2. Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader
  3. Cyberpunk 2077
  4. Call of Duty
  5. Baldur’s Gate 3
  6. Grand Theft Auto V
  7. EA Sports FC 24
  8. Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty
  9. The Day Before
  10. Red Dead Redemption 2

As can be seen above, The Day Before, the controversial shooter from Fntastic and Mytona, debuted at #14 overall (#9 when only taking into account premium titles). Since its launch on December 7, the game has sold over 200k copies, almost 50% of which were refunded within the first days of sale. Following its poor reception and commercial failure, it was pulled from Steam, and Fntastic announced its closure, citing the lack of funding among the main reasons.

Cyberpunk 2077 returned to the top 10, and the Phantom Liberty expansion jumped 14 places to #13 overall. This is likely thanks to the recent release of patch 2.1, which introduced new content (and the subway system) and became the last major update for the game.

Rockstar also saw its games rise in the charts thanks to discounts and the release of the record-breaking first trailer for GTA VI. As a result, GTA V placed 11th overall (up 20 places), while Red Dead Redemption 2 ranked 15th (up 18 places).
