On November 19, Devolved announced that The Talos Principle 2 had sold over 100,000 copies globally since its launch on November 2. The publisher noted that this is now the most acclaimed title in Croteam’s 30-year history.

“We will forever be thankful for the love and support our fans have given us, and the recognition The Talos Principle 2 received from the critics,” the studio wrote on X (former Twitter).

It is unclear how sales are split between platforms, but the game is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.

The Talos Principle 2 received positive reviews from critics with a Metascore of 88 (PC). The PS5 version has an average score of 90, but only eight reviews.

The game currently has an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating on Steam, with 95% of the 3,130 user reviews being positive. The first Talos Principle also has a 95% rating based on over 24k reviews.

According to SteamDB, The Talos Principle 2 peaked at 7,258 concurrent players — compared to the first game’s peak CCU of 4,007. Among all titles from Croteam, it is now second only to Serious Sam 4 (8,522 peak CCU).

When looking at all games published by Devolver Digital in 2023, The Talos Principle 2 has the biggest player count on Steam, followed by Terra Nil (5,916) and Wizard with a Gun (3,866). It is worth noting that Terra Nil, the reverse city builder by Free Lives, reached 300k players in its first week, but keep in mind that this also includes people who tried it on Netflix for free.

Best known for the Serious Sam series, Croteam released The Talos Principle in 2014. It was praised by critics, players, and fellow developers for its first-person puzzle design and philosophical themes. Despite the game’s widespread acclaim, there is no official data on its sales.
