  • According to a new Sensor Tower report, Monster Strike generated $10.5 billion in player spending between its initial Japanese release in 2013 and October 10, 2023.
  • Analysts compared it to another Japanese mobile hit, GungHo Online Entertainment’s match-3 game Puzzle & Dragons, which surpassed $6 billion in revenue in 10 years.
  • Over the past three years, Monster Strike has remained in the top 10 highest-grossing games on the Japanese App Store for 962 days and ranked #1 for 245 days, making it one of the leading mobile titles in the country.
  • From October 11, 2020 to October 10, 2023, Monster Strike was the second-best game in Japan by revenue, with $2 billion — only behind Cygames’ Uma Musume Pretty Derby ($2.1 billion).
  • Other titles in the top 5 are Aniplex’s Fate/Grand Order, Konami’s Professional Baseball Spirits A, and the aforementioned Puzzle & Dragons.
  • During that period, Monster Strike also averaged 5.8 million monthly active users (MAU).
  • Sensor Tower noted that one of the factors behind the game’s long-lasting success are regular updates and collaborations with other popular IPs such as Attack on Titan and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.

Developed and owned by Japnese media company MIXI Inc., Monster Strike is a mobile battler that combines elements of the RPG, puzzle, and strategy genres. It also has a global version released in 2014, as well as a Nintendo 3DS port and the anime series of the same name.

However, marketing support for the North American version of Monster Strike was discontinued in August 2016. According to AppMagic, Japan accounts for 97% of the game’s lifetime revenue, followed by Hong Kong and Taiwan.
