Lies of P developer NEOWIZ invests $17 million in Blank, studio founded by CD Projekt veterans
Blank, a Polish studio composed of former CD Projekt RED developers, has received a strategic investment from South Korean publisher/developer Neowiz.
- Neowiz acquired a 21.26% stake in Blank for ₩22.4 billion ($17 million), according to Korean media outlet Gamemeca. This is part of the company’s expansion into the overseas games market.
- “Collaboration with Blank, which is attracting attention from large game companies and investors around the world for its high capabilities, will be an important opportunity to create synergy for both companies,” Neowiz co-CEO Kim Seung-cheol said in a statement.
- Blank co-founder Mikolaj Marchewka, who was also co-founder of Polish developer Rookiez from Warsaw, added that the Korean company “recognized the potential of our new game and the studio’s long-term vision.”
Announced earlier this year, Blank is a Warsaw-based studio that is now working on its debut project, a character-driven, narrative game set in a post-apocalyptic world collapsed by AI.
In addition to Marchewka, its founding team consists of Mateusz Kanik, one of the game directors on The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, Jędrzej Mróz, former production director at CD Projekt RED, and Marcin Jefimow, former executive producer at CDPR.
Founded in 1997, Neowiz made a name for itself by publishing various online games. It even developed Battlefield Online, a free-to-play shooter, in partnership with DICE. In its recent history, Neowiz has focused on the premium segment with titles like Skul: The Hero Slayer and Lies of P. The latter was a commercial success, selling over 1 million copies globally in its first week.
