The first paid horse in World of Warcraft for $15 earned more than StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty
This was stated by former StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty developer and founder of Pirate Software indie studio Jason Thor Hall.
On his YouTube channel, Hall said that the saddest thing is that he spent two years crunching on StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, but the game lost revenue to one game item.
Therefore, the developer concludes, companies do not abandon microtransactions. There will always be gamers who will spend money on them.
StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty was released in July 2010. In the first two days, the game sold 1.5 million copies, and by the end of 2012, its sales exceeded 6 million copies. In 2017, Blizzard Entertainment made the strategy free.
