Axios: 2023 was the best year for the number of the most highly rated games in the last 20 years
In 2023, 25 games have already been released, which received at least 90 out of 100 points on Metacritic, Axios calculated. This is a record for at least 20 years.
As Axios notes, on average, half as many games with this rating are released every year. In 20 years, there have been only four years in which more than 20 new products had a rating on Metacritic of 90 points or higher: 2004, 2007, 2011 and 2023.
The top most highly rated games of 2023 included The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (96 points), Baldur's Gate 3 (96 points), the remake of Resident Evil 4 (93 points) and Marvel's Spider-Man 2 (90 points).
