Media: Carlyle Group plans to sell RuneScape authors for $1.25 billion
The British studio Jagex may change its owner again. According to Reuters sources, the Carlyle Group investment fund is discussing the sale of the studio with consultants.
According to Reuters, the authors of RuneScape were estimated at £1 billion, or about $1.25 billion. It is assumed that if the sale does take place, it will happen towards the end of the year.
According to the sources of the publication, private investment companies will be among the potential buyers. They will be able to use Jagex to buy up small game studios.
The Carlyle Group acquired the developers of RuneScape in January 2021 for an undisclosed sum. Prior to that, Jagex belonged to Macarthur Fortune Holding, which, in turn, bought the studio from Chinese Fukong Interactive for $530 million in April 2020.
