During the first half of the year, 76.1 million copies of video games were sold in Europe
The Independent Federation of the European Video Game Industry (aka ISFE, aka simply Video Games Europe), presented a report on the state of the PC and console games market in the region for the first six months of 2023.
Let’s go through the main figures:
In total, 76.1 million copies of video games were sold in Europe (important: excluding digital versions of Nintendo, which does not share sales data with ISFE);
▫️29.1 million copies of the game sold on physical media (9% less than a year ago);
4747 million copies of games sold as digital versions (7% more than a year earlier);
The largest video game market in Europe is the United Kingdom, where 15.3 million copies of the game were sold in six months (an annual growth of 5.5%);
Germany is in second place in terms of sales with 14 million games sold (an annual drop of 11%);
▫️The third largest market is France, where 11.1 million games were played in six months (an increase of 8%);
Hogwarts Legacy became the best-selling game of the first half of the year in Europe (and its sales are 69% more than Elden Ring sales for the same period last year);
▫️in second place in sales is Diablo 4, and in third place is FIFA 23;
As for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, it is only in fourth place in sales (but the nuance is that there is no data on its digital sales, only about physical ones).
